Culebra Peak
Proposed Summiting Date 07/22/2016
First of all, the Cielo Vista Ranch is FOR SALE for only 105 million dollars (which includes Culebra Peak). Information below:
Featuring
The 83,368±-acre Cielo Vista Ranch is one of the largest, most pristine private properties in North America. Descriptions of Cielo Vista need not be laden with embellishments and hyperbole. This is, quite simply, an opportunity to own one of the most distinctive properties in the West.
Dramatic snow-capped vistas not only form the backdrop of Cielo Vista, the peaks are indeed a part of the ranch itself. The top of the Sangre de Cristo range, including the 14,053’ Culebra Peak (the highest privately-owned peak in the world) along with eighteen peaks over 13,000′, besets the eastern boundary of the property for over 23 miles. Alpine terrain gives way to large stands of pine, spruce, fir, aspens, and meadows. The ranch is home to thousands of elk, and bighorn sheep roam the property’s high country peaks and glacial basins. Over 100 miles of creeks in multiple drainages provide habitat for several species of trout, including pure strains of the Rio Grande cutthroat. Resplendent with its beautiful forest canopy, miles of creeks, imposing peaks and ridgelines, meadows and aspen groves, it is impossible to fully convey the grandeur of this property.
Cielo Vista Ranch is aptly named, translated from the Spanish as “View of Heaven.”

To Trailhead From San Luis, take CO 152/Road P.6/4th St. (toward Chama). Go 4.2 mi. and turn L onto Road L.7. In 3.5 miles, cross bridge and turn R onto Road 25.5. In.5 mi., turn L onto CR M.5. Go .9 mi. to the north gate of the ranch. Ranch representatives will escort you to the ranch headquarters.
John A. Jancik won the drawing this spring that allows us to climb the Culebra Peak this summer and since it for sale we may or may not be able to climb the peak as the climb is 26 days away yet AND if the mt. is NOT sold we may be one of the last groups to be allowed to climb the peak?
Note: Another video showed a guy with a bad case of the sniffles leaving at 7:15 a.m. and summiting at 9:45 a.m. thus 2.5 hours to the top from the trailhead for a sick guy videoing his climb.
Thanks John for my 21st 14er opportunity. A lot of planning and work went into making this mt. happen. We were supposed to climb this peak last summer but John's name was not drawn in the lottery of the few they allow to climb Culebra Peak each summer.
