Headwaters Subdivision
Dripping Springs, TX 78620
If you are looking for Stargazer Notes for a given session, set the cursor over HW 78620 (or the bars in the upper left of you cell phone) and slide cursor down to Stargazers and over to Next Night's Observation Notes and finally the next available date to have a Stargazing Session.
Stargazers do NOT have a membership and is not a club. All HW residents are welcome for free to attend any given session. I have a 12-inch reflecting telescope on a dobsonian mount (lazy susan) and HW has a telescope that I can train you to use, and you may take it home with you for the week or more, and just return the HW for the next Stargazers session.
I taught High School Astronomy from 1997-2016 for Stevens Point Area Senior High in Central Wisconsin and team- taught Astronomy for NASA's Space Foundation, one summer, at the Air Force Academy, in Colorado Springs, CO. My H.S. Astronomy classes numbers were up to 300 juniors & seniors per school year. I'm retired now, but am still a Teacher Liaison for NASA's Space Foundation in Colorado Springs, CO.
I really enjoy making myself available to share with you my knowledge of the night sky. I love witnessing a person's first site of Saturn and its rings with its large moon Titan, no matter what age the person is. I also love answering your questions and showing you how to use the telescopes, so you can help me help others and you can turn around and teach others sky things the rest of your lives.
I usually get to the observation site around sunset (which varies every session throughout the year), so if you notice it getting dark, think of me up by the HW lower parking lot, getting the telescopes set up, on the sidewalk, just above the kid's playground. I appreciate help setting up (if your able). I love working with the kids, so bring them for a while if you can.
Stargazing can be any length of time, so if you can only stay for 5 minutes to see what is currently in the two telescopes or can stay for hours, please come.
I also have a powerful green laser pointer for pointing out the places in the sky that the telescopes are looking and for teaching the star names (and their meanings) and drawing out the constellation shapes. The app on my cell phone or your cell phone helps with the shapes also.
I hope to see you as often as you can make it as every session is unique as the night sky changes throughout the year. Moon, planets, asteroids, comets, galaxies, star clusters, satellites, shooting stars, nebula, moons of other planets, UFO's, fireballs, stars & constellations are just a few of the things that are changing throughout the year. Then there is the four sunrises & sunsets daily to explain, what telescope to buy or not, how I set up an observation session, and any other questions you may have.
Just Remember to "Keep Looking Up!"
