Note: The above Joe Mezera is NOT the Joe Mezera in this story that follows. I have not figured out where the Joe Mezera my dad gardened with goes in the genealogy yet??? Story: My dad gardened with Joe Mezera behind his home at the base of Mondel Hill across from PDC city water station and on Joe's land up in the Vineyard Coulee. They had a huge cabbage garden by the PDC water utility (Dad would put up over 100 quarts and Joe over 200 quarts of sauerkraut each year) and in the vineyard coulee a garden up on the hill (by a fresh spring coming out of the sand where we'd get a drink when working in the upper garden) and a second garden at the base of the hill (with the vine crops). We would dig worms near the creek that followed the Vineyard Coulee Rd. And my dad would also have a garden adjacent Joe's in back of his home and a big one at our home. The first day I went to Al & Blanche Harks for a job, Al asked if I could hoe a garden and I honestly answered that I had hoed 5 big gardens yesterday (the five mentioned above), so Al had me hoe their huge garden all afternoon and sent me home on my bicycle after supper and handing me a quarter for the half day of hoeing his garden.
