YES, HW has a Total Solar Eclipse right here within our subdivision!
School will be called off on April 8, 2024 even so the children can learn from this once in a lifetime occurrence in their own backyard!
April 8, 2024 Total Solar Eclipse
Since the Total Eclipse goes right through HW, we'll meet up at HW Central on the field and the hill up to the pavilion by the field.
NEVER look at the SUN directly as it will harm your eyes and CAN EVEN BLIND you.
The following should be censored so DON"T READ THE FOLLOWING as you may have nightmares but it makes my point:
Remember, one torture done in history was to pin (tie) a person to the ground, on their back, with their eyelids fastened so they could not close them and make it so they could not turn their head even and make it so the SUN would pass by their vision, as the sun passed over. The person always ended up blind for the rest of their lives.

Bring blankets and/or chairs to sit on. Make a picnic out of it if you like.
I'll provide safe solar eclipse glasses for each family as I have 50 glasses now and any size family can share the same pair of glasses OR purchase your own glasses on Amazon. I paid $80 plus for 50 of the safe solar eclipse glasses.
I'll have my 12" reflecting telescope on the field with the $350+ solar filter on the top of it so people can safely look at the sun during the eclipse through the telescope. DO NOT use binoculars as I'm not aware of any safe solar filters for binoculars.
Without a solar filter for your telescope, the sun will destroy your telescope so don't bring a telescope unless you have a safe solar filter for it and know how to use it. The first time I used a solar filter, I forgot to remove the finder scope and the sun burned out the cross hairs in my finder scope.
Bring a pack of index cards any size. If you poke a small hole in one index card with a pin or ice pick then allow the sun to shine through the hold onto a 2nd index card being used as a screen, you can witness the solar eclipse safely and actually it's almost as good as with the solar glasses or telescope with expensive solar filter. You can have a 2nd index card with a dozen or more holes in it and the 2nd screen index white card will show a solar eclipse for each hole simultaneously. Cool looking for sure!!!
This is an activity that you and the kids will never forget. Come up to the HW field area, get to know your HW neighbors, play on the playground, have a picnic and enjoy the total solar eclipse right here in HW.

Last Note: Just like the Goldilocks Three Bear's story, the moon is not too far away from Earth (Apogee) or too close to the Earth (Perigee) but just the right distance from Earth so that the Moon appears the SAME SIZE as the SUN as seen from Earth and JUST blocks out the entire SUN. It will get completely dark for a few minutes. I hope our HW lights don't come on in the parking lots or the pool area?
Of course, it takes 50 moons to fill the Earth, and it would take 1,300,000 (1.3 million) Earths to fill the SUN thus 64.3 million Moons to fill the SUN so the SUN is much larger than the Moon but the Sun is also over 400 times further away so the moon can just block off the sun perfectly. We are the only planet, that has a moon, just the right distance from our planet, that appears the same size as our SUN from the planet. Cool! We are special perhaps in the solar system if not the Universe.
I hope you enjoyed this page.
