Big Foot Trail, vacant construction road, and SE square. (No steep hills, and parallels 270)
I know these are not colored trails, so not designed by Mike & Luke, but if you get a chance, they are must-see trails before they disappear as they are zoned commercial and will be similar to the Belterra stores (not huge Targets or anything like Walmart stores). Also, the Big Foot Rock Garden is a must-see also.
Construction road - parallels 290 and zoned commercial. Great for having your kids try their new bicycle skills on as it sees zero traffic.
When you enter are subdivision on HWBVD you'll see the gated construction road gated off on your right (east side of entrance) shortly after the HW brick structure by the entrance. This road was used for phase 3 construction, but it now blocked on both ends. Besides, in phase 3, a home is already built at the road's entrance to phase 3 so the road dead ends at their backyard. It is possible to walk around a barb-wire fence, a path leads up out on the upper end (east end), to get into phase 3 (HW last construction phase as they did not do the phases in the order that they originally thought they would). Of course, you could park up at the top of the south side of Iron Willow Loop, at the top of hill 4 and enter the construction road from this end. Note the rough map below. The construction road would be a great place for young kids to learn to ride their bicycle as it's an empty road.
The Bigfoot Trail was named by an original family in HW, who had kids, but has since moved out of HW. This family not only made a sign saying Big Foot Trail (prior to the construction road being built over it and paralleling 290 between 290 and the Big Foot Trail) and on the far end of the Big Foot Trail this same family built the Big Foot Rock Garden (a must see) and their sign is still there. If a family or two would be willing to help me move the Big Foot Rock Garden onto HW common space, text me at 715-323-3256 and we'll get the job done before it is simply bulldozed over when they start commercial construction in this area. Note the map on how the Big Foot Trail follows the ridge so curves away from the construction road/290 on the west end before curving back to parallel the unused construction road. The Big Foot Trail ends at the Big Foot Rock Garden where a jeep road can take you back down to the highlines just above Roy Bridge Road Bridge. A trail under the highlines will take you to a trail that crosses the ditch, and the trail takes you up to Roy Branch Road just before you cross Roy Branch Bridge.
If you are going east on the construction road, after the construction road turns north toward HW zone 3, you'll see a trail going east again. I call it "the trail around the square woods" on the far SE corner of HW. The trail will take you right by the sign saying "HW has over 1,000 acres of free space", that you see from Hywy 290 after you cross Canyonwood stop & go lights going west on 290. As you are walking on the east side of this trail going north, you'll see the very long backyards of Canyonwood homes. One of the homes has pet goats that will come up to the fence if you have young kids that might enjoy that. The north side of the trail around the square woods is under the highlines that bring the power into HW. The NW corner of the trail around the square woods has that barb-wire fence, in back of a phase 3 already build spec home, and you can easily walk around the lower end of the barb-wire fence or go onto phase 3 roads to exit this area. Note rough map below.
